Prospective Students

As a prospective student, you may be wondering what the Islamic University in Madinah has to offer. What is the point of travelling across the globe when there are places you can learn from right from home?

The location

First, you will be in city of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and have constant access to the Prophets Mosque. It is a city filled with eminent scholars and the avenues of learning available to the student of knowledge are numerous.

Students enrolled in the university often seek knowledge outside of their regular classes to help bolster their understanding of subjects not completely covered within their specialisation. For example, a student studying Hadith may not cover subjects relating to Sharia in as much depth as he would like. To help get a more well-rounded education the student may attend lectures at one of the two mosques located within the University, or better yet, attend lectures which are held at the Prophets Mosque.

There are also lectures which are held at differing locations, such as lectures at a sheik's house or one of the many mosques within Madinah.

Another thing to note, is that you are within one of the two sanctuaries in the world (Makkah and Madinah), which earns you double the reward for any good deeds, however you must ensure to stay away from sin as bad deeds are also doubled! A further advantage of being within the sanctuary means you are safe from the Dajjal (In Sha Allah) as he is not able to enter the boundaries of the sanctuary (of which the University campus grounds and accommodation are within).

Hadith about Madinah and the Students of Knowledge

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "One prayer in my Mosque is better than one thousand prayers in any other mosque excepting Al-Masjid-AI-Haram."

Sahih Bukhari

Narrated Sufyan b. Abu Zuhair: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "Yemen will be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families, and those who will obey them to migrate (to Yemen) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew. Sham will also be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families and those who will obey them, to migrate (to Sham) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew. 'Iraq will be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families and those who will obey them to migrate (to 'Iraq) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew."

Sahih Bukhari

Abu-Darda (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "He who follows a path in quest of knowledge, Allah will make the path of Jannah easy to him. The angels lower their wings over the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with what he does. The inhabitants of the heavens and the earth and even the fish in the depth of the oceans seek forgiveness for him. The superiority of the learned man over the devout worshipper is like that of the full moon to the rest of the stars (i.e., in brightness). The learned are the heirs of the Prophets who bequeath neither dinar nor dirham but only that of knowledge; and he who acquires it, has in fact acquired an abundant portion."

Riyad as-Salihin (Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)
